Size & Fit Guide

Find your fit

A little guidance to help you choose your Bareli earrings, from post lengths to putting them in.

Understanding your earring

A flatback earring has three parts, and three different measurements.

Gauge (post thickness) is the width of the post. Post length is measured from the inside face of the flat back to the underside of the earring front.

Front size

The width and height of the earring front. You’ll find it in each product’s details.

Post length

The part that passes through your piercing. We measure it from the inside face of the flat back to the underside of the earring front, so the front and the back disc are not included.

Gauge (post thickness)

This is how thick the post is.

Choosing your post length

Our flatback earrings are available with 6 mm and 8 mm posts. The right length depends on your individual ear and piercing.

6 mm

The shorter option, for piercings where a shorter post provides a comfortable fit.

8 mm

The longer option, for piercings that need more wearable post length.

Neither length is the right answer for every lobe or every cartilage piercing. Ears and piercings vary, so go by the fit you already find comfortable.

Already wear a flatback that fits comfortably? Check its post length as a starting point. If you are unsure, a professional piercer can help you confirm your size.

Checking your gauge (post thickness)

Gauge (post thickness): 16G / 1.2 mm

Every earring in our launch collection has the same gauge.

Gauge (post thickness) is different from post length. Check that the gauge matches your existing piercing before ordering.

Traditional earring posts may be thinner, so having a pierced ear does not automatically mean every flatback will fit.

Never force jewellery through a piercing or try to stretch it yourself. If you are unsure, ask a professional piercer.

Putting your earrings in

Every earring in our launch collection uses the same threadless, push-fit fastening. The earring front has a pin that pushes into the flat back post, so there is nothing to screw.

Wash and dry your hands before you start, then follow the steps below.

How to fit your flatbacks

No screwing needed

  1. Pull apart
    Step 01

    Pull apart

Gently pull the earring front out of the flatback post.

  2. Front feeling loose?
    Step 02

    Front feeling loose?

Already secure? Skip this step. If loose, insert the pin halfway into the post and bend very slightly, as shown. Pull it out again before fitting.

  3. Insert from behind
    Step 03

    Insert from behind

Slide the flatback post through your piercing from the back of your ear.

  4. Push together
    Step 04

    Push together

Hold the flat disc behind your ear and push the earring front fully into the post. Check it feels secure.

Quick questions

Is post length the same as earring size?

No. Post length is the part that goes through your piercing. Earring size describes the earring front, and it is listed in each product’s details.

How do I know whether I need 6 mm or 8 mm?

If you already wear a flatback that fits comfortably, check its post length and use that as your starting point. 6 mm is the shorter option and 8 mm gives more wearable length. If you are unsure, a professional piercer can confirm your size.

What does 16G mean?

G stands for gauge, a measure of post thickness. 16G is 1.2 mm. With gauge, a lower number means a thicker post.

Will these fit my existing piercing?

Our posts are 16G (1.2 mm). Traditional earring posts may be thinner, so check the gauge your piercing currently wears before ordering. Do not force an earring through or stretch a piercing yourself. If your piercing is new or still healing, speak to your piercer before changing your jewellery.

Are the earrings sold singly or in pairs?

Every earring in our launch collection is sold as a single earring, so you can build your own stack. Order two for a pair.

How does the fastening work?

Our launch earrings are threadless. The earring front has a pin that pushes into the flat back post. Nothing screws in. See Putting your earrings in for the steps.
